How do I ask a question?
The quickest way to ask a question is to: Go to the home page, type in your question and click the 'Continue...' button. After that you choose the relevant category (if you like, you can also add an attachment here). By clicking 'Check and send your question' you send it to the selected persons. An alternative way to get answers is to search the AskAnOwner database. Use the search box in the right top bar of every AskAnOwner page. You will get two types of results:
- Matching subjects or categories in the knowledge database - Through these you can find persons with relevant experience
- Earlier questions & answers that match your search criteria
How do I add an attachment?
You can add an attachment to a question or an answer in the following way. Click the Browse button, select the file you would like to attach and click the Add attachment button to add the file as an attachment. The total maximum file size of the attachments is 2 Mb. Files that can be added as an attachment: doc, rtf, xls, ppt, txt, pdf, bmp, jpg, gif, tif, png, wav en zip.
How do I answer a question?
If somebody asks you a question, you receive a notification by e-mail. By clicking the link in the e-mail you are directly directed to the 'Answer the question' page on AskAnOwner. You can also reach this page by clicking the 'new question' link in the top bar on the AskAnOwner site. This link shows you if there are any new or unanswered questions waiting for you. If you open a question, you see two buttons: 'Answer' and 'Decline'. If you click the 'Answer' button, a text box appears where you can enter your answer. Don't forget ti click the 'Send' button after you have finished! If you decide to decline the question, you can type in the reason.
How do I find a person with the right experience to ask a question to?
There are two ways of finding people with relevant experience. The first is to browse through the categories and click on the subject you want to find out more about. The second way is to type the subject in the search box (top right on every page). The search results will display a list of relevant subjects. Choose one of these to find earlier answers and a list of all people that have experience in this field.
How do I get an answer to my question?
The persons that you have asked your question to receive an e-mail with a link to your question on AskAnOwner. As soon as one of them has typed an answer, you will get an e-mail also, saying 'You have a new answer to your question'. Click on the link in that e-mail to see the answer. It's as simple as that!
What if I do not get an answer?
If someone does not answer a question fast enough, AskAnOwner sends him or her a reminder. If he or she still does not respond, the question is withdrawn automatically. At the same time the person that has asked the question is notified, so he or she can send the question to someone else.
How can I get my question on the question board?
If nobody has shared their experience with a subject (i.e. there is no one to answer your question) you can post your question on the question board. In that case this option is presented automatically
Can I keep my question private?
No, all correspondence on AskAnOwner is visible for all users. This is meant to provide as much information as possible. What you can do however is ask your question anonymously. In that case no one can trace the question to your account.
How much time does it take to answer questions?
You can decide this for yourself. On the 'My profile' page you can choose the maximum number of questions you would like to receive per week or per month. To change this setting go to the 'My profile' page and choose 'Edit profile'. The standard setting is 5 per week, which means that if you have 5 unanswered questions, no new ones will be asked. Don't forget to click the 'Save changes' button when you are finished! If you do not want to receive any questions for a while (e.g. when you go on holiday) you can temporarily deactivate your AskAnOwner account.
What does 'Do you have additional information?' mean?
If you look at an earlier question / answer combination and you have something to add to the original answer, you can click this link. Your contribution will be added to the database and shown with the original question and answer. The person that originally asked the question will receive an e-mail notification of this.
How can I add or change information?
Go to the 'My profile' page and click on 'Edit profile'. Here you can add, change or delete information. Don't forget to click the 'Save changes' button when you are finished!
What information about me is visible for other users?
In your 'Public profile' some information is shown such as your username and your registered experiences. To see your public profile you can go to the 'My profile' page an click on 'View public profile'.
How does the rating system work?
After receiving an answer you can rate its usefulness. You can also indicate whether the answer has saved you any time or money.
What is a 'Top 10 owner' and how do I become one?
You have probably noticed the list, displayed on the left side of each page, of 'Top 10 Owners'. This ranking is based on the number of points an owner has earned. This number is displayed right behind the name of the Top Owner. Points are earned by registering products and experiences with opinions, by answering questions (with bonus points for answering promptly), and points are received for high answer ratings. Of course, you will be able to answer more questions and collect more points by adding items to your profile. Not only do points bring you fame and recognition in the AskAnOwner community, in due time, these points will be the currency to pay for a variety of products and services.
How do I win rewards?
In the future, the top members of the AskAnOwner community will be rewarded with gadgets, holidays or hardware. So when you have earned enough points, AskAnOwner offers you the chance to gain even more first hand experience with desirable products and services!
How do I earn points?
Points are earned by:
- Registering experiences
- Writing opinions
- Answering questions
- Answering questions relatively promptly
- High answer ratings
Simply sign up as an owner and you will start to earn points. Of course, you will be able to answer more questions and collect more points by adding products and services to your profile.
